چکیده

Advances in the areas of QoS and IP multicasting have necessitated the need of integration of these two important features of Internet. Differentiated services (DiffServ) has been proposed as a scalable Solution for supporting QoS in the Internet. Coexistence of multicasting and DiffServ is promising since the DiffServ model can provide a scalable framework and may reduce the computational complexity to locate a QoS-satisfied multicast tree. In this paper, we have first identify the problems of provisioning multicasting in DiffServ domains. Next, we have proposed an efficient DiffServ-Aware Multicasting (DAM) scheme which has three novel features: weighted traffic conditioning (WTC), receiver-initiated marking (RIM) scheme, and Heterogeneous DSCP Headers encapsulation (HDE). The proposed technique solves many problems with the integration of DiffServ and multicasting while accommodating heterogeneous QoS requirements. The framework is scalable, flexible, and feasible. Performance evaluation through analysis and simulations demonstrate conformance of the QoS requirements and the potential benefits of DAM.

A Tree Building Technique for Overlay Multicasting in DiffServ Domains

Overlay multicasting technology is now considered as a promising alternative to the native IP multicasting. While many studies are currently focused on how to build an overlay tree/mesh on top of conventional networks in a self-organized fashion, only limited attention has been directed toward QoS provisioning. QoS can be provisioned by leveraging the implementation of differentiated services i...

Supporting QoS-aware Multicasting in Differentiated Service Networks

A scalable QoS aware multicast deployment in DiffServ networks has become an important research dimension in recent years. Although multicasting and differentiated services are two complementary technologies, the integration of the two technologies is a non-trivial task due to architectural conflicts between them. A popular solution proposed is to extend the functionality of the DiffServ compon...

Dynamic DSCPs for heterogeneous QoS in DiffServ multicasting

The significant growths of group communications and QoSaware applications over the Internet have accelerated the development of two key technologies, namely, multicasting and Differentiated Services (DiffServ). Although both are complementary technologies, their integration is a non-trivial task due to several architectural conflicts between them. The inherent heterogeneous nature of QoS multic...
